Received order in a week. That was quick considered I am in Canada! The box was a little too flimsy as the box was slightly crushed. But overall very good transaction.
Our names are Julie and Kristina and our company, Akari New Zealand, produces natural skin and hair care products.
Akari is the Cook Islands word for coconut, which is a fitting name as many of our products contain cold pressed coconut oil.
Our journey began with our insect repellent. Julie is allergic to the commercial insect repellents that are available on the market, to the extent that she had to go to hospital in Rarotonga due to a severe reaction to the insect repellents she used. After the 3rd visit to the hospital, and with a keen interest in natural ingredients, it was decided to create a natural insect repellent that would keep the pesky mosquitos away without the severe reaction. After much research, trial and error, our first product was born.
Family and friends started using the repellent and we started receiving requests as it was proving effective and mild enough to be used on children and babies. With such a positive reaction, we decided to see if we could create more natural products to help friends and family. Our shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion were the result of more research. These products were such a hit with the family that we decided to take it to market. Akari New Zealand was underway.
Since then, we have added a Grapefruit Himalayan Salt Scrub to our range. A very popular line with the divine scent of grapefruit and the luxurious feel of coconut oil.
Another item that has been added to the Akari Range is the face and body serum. This serum was created for Julie’s sister Audrey who had undergone surgery and radiation treatment for breast cancer. Audrey asked if we could create something to help with the scarring and discomfort post treatment. As the serum was created for her, we named the serum Audrey’s Serum. This has since been used by many people, with varying types of skin conditions and the feedback has been just as wonderful as Audrey’s. We personally use it on our own skin as a facial serum, as part of our daily skin care routine.
.Today, we both work full time in the business, whilst overseas we have built partnerships in Rarotonga. We are passionate about natural products and are excited with the Akari range we have created. We hope Akari will help other people with sensitive skin and who wish to avoid hard chemicals.
