There seems to be quite the buzz around the word “Superfoods” these days. Opening up pages in health magazines there are beautiful coloured pictures of culinary delights that not only look fabulous but, if you follow the recipes, taste like nectar from the gods.
So what is the definition of a superfood? A superfood is simply a food that is higher in nutrients than in calories. They contain health sustaining substances such as micro-nutrients, enzymes, phytochemicals, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. These types of foods have been available to us since the beginning of time.
Unfortunately due to our modern food processing techniques and our fast food mentality there has been a decline in the many medicinal properties of food. Our fast and busy life style has resulted in high consumption of fast foods, processed foods, and even nutrient lacking industrial agriculture. But it has also caused the loss of the original superfoods as people find less time to prepare and cook nutrient rich food.
Thankfully people are now turning back to the concept of using food as medicine. This has shown a resurgence of superfoods in a big way.
One original superfood that is available to us is CHLOROPHYLL. Chlorophyll, derived from the alfalfa plant is rich in nutrients including Vitamins A, B1, B3, B5, B6, B9, B12, C, D, E, K, biotin, amino acids, digestive enzymes and protein.
Chlorophyll rich diets help to cleanse the blood, detoxify the tissues and balance the body’s pH. Chlorophyll is an energising superfood that supports healthy digestion and immune function. Nature’s Sunshine Liquid Chlorophyll is a nutritious and delicious, mint flavoured green juice providing the equivalent of 2½ cups of spinach in each convenient daily dose.
Nature’s Sunshine Liquid Chlorophyll is free from parabens, alcohol and palm oil.
