Babies are born with their own unique & specific microbiota. Initially sterile, baby inherits the good and bad bacteria of its mother during birth and passage through the vaginal canal, (or not - if by caesarean) and also by maternal milk.
The microbiota in a babys’ gut slowly develops, and by the age of 3years, the child should have a mature intestinal flora that will accompany him or her throughout life.
There are many factors in a babys first few years of life which influence its’ gut microbiota. For example: breast or bottle fed, any medications – including anti-biotics, variety & types of solid foods, and anything else that baby comes into contact with.
It was quite common for little ones in years gone by to put everything in their mouths as they learnt about the world around them. Despite the grossness of some of this - & the ‘clean-up’ job for Mums & Dads; these young ones would usually end up with the benefit of a variety of microbiota in their gut, and often a stronger immune system because of it. Todays littlies are more often than not ‘protected’ from ‘germs’, and their gut does not have the same variety and population of beneficial microbiota required to support & build a strong immune system.
Good intestinal microflora is essential for the digestion and for the assimilation of nutrients. Vivomixx® supplies the gold standard in beneficial microbiotics and helps keep a balanced intestinal ecosystem, thus supporting a healthy growth of your child.
