Indications Nutra-Life Horsechestnut 2000 Complex maybe beneficial in the management of of varicose veins and the improvement of circulation particularly to the extremities including the hands and feet and may be helpful in; # Phlebitis (inflammation of the veins) # Varicosity and haemorrhoids # Leg ulcers # Maintain integrity and tone of blood vessels. Special Benefits Nutra-Life Horsechestnut 2000 Complex provides 2000mg (2 grams) of Horsechestnut standardised to provide 66.7mg of Aescin a saponin, which inhibits swelling, together with Gingko biloba 500mg to help increase peripheral blood flow and oxygenation. Gotu Kola - Centella asiatica 100mg assists wound healing and improves circulation in the legs. Clinical trials have demonstrated results in the treatment of venous insufficiency of the lower limbs and varicose veins. It effectiveness in treating venous insufficiency and varicose veins appears to be related to its ability to enhance connective tissue structure, reduce sclerosis and improve the blood flow through the affected limbs. Specifically it possesses an ability to enhance connective tissue integrity by stimulating glycosaminoglycan synthesis. Glycosaminoglycans are the major components of the intercellular matrix (ground substance) which surrounds the vein and helps give it structure. Butchers Broom - Ruscus aculeatus Butchers Broom has been used traditionally to treat venous disorders such as varicose veins and haemorrhoids.

The active ingredients in Butchers Broom exhibit anti-inflammatory and vasoconstrictor effects. Bilberry - Vaccinium myrtillus The therapeutic uses of standardised Bilberry extract with anthocyanides (potent antioxidants) prevent the breakdown of Vitamin C, improve capillary integrity and stabilise the collagen matrix by preventing free radical damage. These anthocyanides are potent antioxidants and inhibitors of several enzymes involved in inflammation. Bilberry extract also benefits circulation and blood vessel integrity throughout the body. Hesperidin (Bioflavonoid) Hesperidin potentiates the action of Vitamin C allowing for lower doses to be given.

Bioflavonoids act synergistically with Vitamin C to protect and preserve the structure of the capillaries. In Bioflavonoid deficiency the capillary walls become so porous that red blood corpuscles leak into the tissues. Research shows that Bioflavonoids have anti-adhesive effects on blood cells, and prevent cells from clumping together and forming blood clots, which can cause damage to the heart, lungs and brain. Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) Vitamin C is needed for the formation of collagen and to protect against blood clotting and bruising and to promote the healing of wounds.

Collagen is a connective tissue and an intracellular cement in the walls of the capillaries and loss of this substance leads to their rupture and the production of patechial haemorrhages, sometimes seen as 'spider veins'. Extensive published research defends the benefits of Vitamin C in the prevention and repair of blood vessel damage. References Murray. M. & Pizzorno. J.
