Zeel in combination with Diclofenac
Based upon the results and to determine whether a synergistic action would exist between Zeel® comp N and the NSAID Diclofenac, Maiko evaluated the efficacy of Diclofenac alone compared to that of Zeel® comp N combined with Diclofenac in a controlled comparative study with 80 patients suffering from osteoarthritis. Pain, function, occurrence of inflammatory processes (synovitis) and global assessment of therapeutic efficacy were evaluated at start and end of treatment as well as at 3,6 and 12 months following treatment. Patients treated with both Zeel® comp N and Diclofenac showed better and long lasting therapeutic effect than patients treated with Diclofenac alone. Consequently, interesting new treatments could emerge from the combination of the two preparations, which could possibly result in efficient, more tolerable therapy option with lowered side effects.12
Zeel®comp.for long-term use
Zeel® comp N can be combined with other natural or allopathic medications.It is ideal for long-term treatment and is suitable for patients of all ages. Zeel® comp N should be considered as basic therapy in all types of osteoarthritis.In acute phases (as well as severe cases) additional medication may be necessary to help control the pain. Over time, the use of Zeel® comp N will lengthen the intervals between inflammatory peaks as well as significantly reduce the intensity of the pain as seen in the figure below.Thus,the need for additional pain relief medication will be diminished with long-term use of Zeel® comp N.

Mechanism of action
Zeel® comp N modulates inflammation. An in vitro study revealed that the ingredients in Zeel® comp N have distinct modulatory effects on COX-1,COX-2 and 5-LOX activity.8
The ingredients in Zeel® comp N have demonstrated inhibitory activity of metalloproteinases such as leukocyte elastase.9 These enzymes which are released during the inflammatory process, dissolve the ground substance causing damage to the proteoglycans of the cartilage, and thus, trigger the degenerative process.In normal joints,this deterioration is balanced by a repair process that is mediated by growth factors such as transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-ß). An in vitro experiment showed that certain plant extracts contained in Zeel® comp N (such as Rhus toxicodendron,Sanguinaria canadensis and Arnica montana) stimulate lymphocytes to release TGF-ß.10TGF-ß is particularly important in down regulating inflammation and normalizing tissue growth and collagen formation.11

Aids joint mobility
Indications: Temporary relief of the pain of arthritis and osteoarthritis. May help reduce joint inflammation or swelling associated with arthritis and increased joint mobility.
Therapeutic information: Helps relieve pain and discomfort associated with articular joint disease, and improves joint mobility. Contains homoeopathic sulphur. Research shows that sulphur can be converted to chondroitin sulphate which is intrinsic to the joint tissue.
Ingredients: Each tablet contains: Rhus toxicodendron 2x 0.5mg; Arnica montana 2x 1 mg; Solanum dulcamara 2x 0.3mg; Sanguinaria canadensis 2x 0.45 g; Sulfur 6x 0.75mg
Also contains lactose, magnesium stearate.
Directions for use:
For adults and children 12 years and over: 1 tablet 3 times daily for acute and chronic conditions.

Therapeutic information: Zeel® comp N is a perfect adjuvant to arthritic treatment for localised relief of swelling and pain. Can be used periodically in acute episodes or for chronic complaints.
Ingredients: Contains Arnica montana 2X 3 mg; Rhus toxicodendron 2X 2.7 mg; Sanguinaria canadensis 2X 2.25 mg; Solanum dulcamara 2X 750 mcg; Sulfur 6X 2.7 mg. Ointment base contains: purified water, ethanol, cetostearyl alcohol, liquid paraffin, soft white paraffin.
Directions for use: Adults and children: Rub a 4-5 cm long ribbon of cream into the affected area morning and night. If symptoms persist consult your healthcare practitioner.
Oral ampoule

Contraindications:
Oral vials: hypersensitivity to Rhus toxicodendron (poison ivy) and Arnica.
Tablets: hypersensitivity to Rhus toxicodendron (poison ivy) and Arnica.Due to the constituent Sanguinaria (bloodroot), do not use during pregnancy and nursing. Medical supervision is necessary in cases of existing liver conditions, history thereof or simultaneous use of hepatotoxic substances.
Ointment: hypersensitivity to Rhus toxicodendron (poison ivy) and Arnica.
Side effects:
Oral vials: in very rare cases gastrointestinal complaints or skin reactions can occur even several days after use. In individual cases, hypersensitivity reactions (up to the anaphylactic reaction) are possible in persons who are known to be hypersensitive to composites (Arnica).
Tablets: in very rare cases, gastrointestinal complaints or skin reactions can occur even several days after use. Hypersensitivity reactions may occur in isolated instances in individuals with known hypersensitivity to plants of the compositae family (e.g.Arnica).During treatment with medications containing bloodroot (Sanguinaria) alkaloids, there have been individual reports of increased liver enzymes (transaminases) and serum bilirubin elevations up to a drug-induced jaundice (drug-related toxic hepatitis), which normalized or receded after discontinuing use of the product. Duration of treatment: liver function parameters should be monitored if used for more than 4 weeks.
Ointment: in rare cases, hypersensitivity or allergic skin reactions may occur.

In acute pain, Zeel® comp N may be temporarily combined with Traumeel® S. Additionally, Glucosomine may be used for trophic effect!
